Not too far from where I live, there is a hill. The owner(s) of this hill decided, some time after the war began, to stick a white cross (or Star of David or Islamic Crescent or Dharma Wheel or what have you) for every soldier killed in the conflict.

Since that time, the entire hill has been literally covered in crosses. It looks like a white mound from a distance, with a banner proclaiming the number of dead at the top.

And of course, these are just the American soldiers—not including troops from other countries, or, of course, the Iraqis.

Somebody remind me again how this war was supposed to be good for the American people, the Iraqi people, or the world….

“If any question why we died,
Tell them because our fathers lied” -Kipling on the Great War.

    True then, and true now.

I have a magnetic ribbon on the back of my car. I don’t recall what it said originally, but I’ve modified it to read:

    Whatever…

I’m not sure if anybody’s noticed… but it’s still there.
